Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints shot a scorching 64% from the field, including 75% in the second half (27-for-36), and 72.7% (16-for-22) from the three point line to cruise past Impact Academy by 51 points, their largest margin of victory this season.
Santa Fe (10-11, 2-1 MFC) led by just nine after a slow first half, but turned it on to outscore Impact 66-24 in the second half.
"We didn't defend very well in the first half, and turned the ball over too many times," said SF Coach Chris Mowry. "In the second half we held them to 24 points and did a nice getting out and running to produce easy shots."
SF cut their turnovers down from 10 to two over the two halves and their 755 shooting in the final 20 minutes came as a result of their defense producing high percentage layups and dunks.
LaBrian Shiflet built off the momentum of his game winner against Central Florida on Saturday to the tune of 24 points, including 6-for-7 from beyond the arc. Alex Brown scored 18, all on three pointers (6-for-8), Jarred Anderson had 12, Alphonso Brown 10, and Sam Guerrier added seven.
"I thought we shared the basketball and shot the ball about as well as you can from beyond the arc," said Mowry. "We need to keep working hard in practice and have the same approach on Thursday night."
The Saints will continue on Thursday, January 21 at 7:00 PM against non-conference opponent Victory Rock Academy at home. The next Mid-Florida Conference match-up is on Wednesday, January 27 at 8:00 PM in the SF Gym.
