Saints Men’s Tripped up on the Road, 80-72
The Santa Fe Saints started and finished slowly resulting in an 80-72 loss to Indian River State College in Fort Pierce Saturday evening.
The Saints trailed 23-12, 10 minutes into the game before Isaiah Islam and John Mason took charge of the offense to give the Saints a 41-36 lead at the half. Islam scored 10 of his 13 points in the opening stanza while Mason scored all 11 of his points during the first half.
The Saints pushed their lead to nine point in the early minutes of the second half before a pair of IRSC runs put the game away.
"We made too many mistakes," said SF Head Coach Chris Mowry, "which is typical of a young team on the road. They were more aggressive the last 10 or 12 minutes and we didn't handle it well."
Brady Fernandes led the Saints with 17 points while Miles Coleman scored 14, Islam 13 and Mason 11.
The Saints (1-1) will travel to Gordon State College in Barnesville, GA to face the Highlanders at 8:00 pm next Friday. Their next home game will be on Saturday Nov. 17 against ASA.
