Saints Beat Hawks at Home 89-66
The Saints men's basketball team notched another win at home 89-66 against Hillsborough Community College Wednesday, November 20.
The first 14 minutes saw both teams jockeying for position on top of the scoreboard before the Saints captured a double-digit lead and didn't look back. By halftime, the Saints had a 48-30 lead over the Hawks.
The team effort for the Saints continued as multiple players made shots and free throws as the margin grew throughout the second half. The Hawks tried to battle back but was thwarted continuously by the Saints' defense.
Saints head coach Chris Mowry stated, "It was a really good win tonight over a good HCC team. We were very good defensively from about the 12-minute mark in the first half until five minutes to go in the game."
He continued, "Holding any team to 36% from the field will help beat a lot of teams."
Mowry also praised the night's offense.
"Offensively, we had our best night shooting from 'three' and the free throw line." Mowry added, "Luka (Filipovic) had a big night inside scoring and rebounding while Josiah (Tynes) and Dejuon (Small) had solid floor games and hit some 'threes' and Nikola (Jerotic) played with his usual effort and toughness."
It was a positive night with 12 players contributing to the win.
Four Saints scored in double figures, lead by Filipovic (15 points, 11 rebounds), Small (13 points, four rebounds), Tynes (12 points, four rebounds) and Jerotic (10 points, five rebounds).
The Saints (5-2, 0-0 MFC) head to Indian River State College on Saturday, November 23 for a 2 p.m. start.
