Saints Lose Close One Against Florida Gateway
The Saints men's basketball team were unable to snatch the game away from the Florida Gateway College Wolves in a 61-58 loss at home Tuesday, November 26.
The game was close throughout both halves and came down to the wire in the final seconds.
"Florida Gateway really played well and deserved to come out on top," said Saints head coach Chris Mowry. He continued, "Time after time their players made tough shots to keep the lead. We had a lot of open shots that we missed – both from the 'three' and inside."
With the Saints not capturing the win, it came down to which team made less errors.
Mowry said, "Turnovers were a big problem for us as a unit."
The team also realizes how much talent their competitors possess.
"We have a lot of freshman who are learning how much better junior college basketball is than high school or prep school," Mowry stated.
Looking forward, Coach Mowry declared, "I like our players and believe we will be a good team as the season goes on."
Lead scorer for the Saints with11 points was Luka Filipovic. Ryan Leonard contributed 10 points.
The Saints (5-4, 0-0 MFC) return to the court on Friday, November 29 at home against the Panthers of Palm Beach State College. Game time is 4 p.m.
