Men's Basketball Rolls to 76-56 Win over Palm Beach State College
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - For the second consecutive night, a strong first half propelled Santa Fe men's basketball to victory, as the Saints knocked off visiting Palm Beach State College, 76-56.
A 50-30 advantage was established after the game's opening 20 minutes, and the Saints withstood the Panther's best efforts to work their way back into it in the second half.
For the second straight game to begin the season, freshman guard Bradley Douglas led the Saints in points, pouring in a game-high 23. Four of Douglas' eight baskets came from three-point territory.
Japhet "Jay" Medor contributed 16 points and went 9-of-12 from the free-throw line, while Aleksa Medic added nine points with three trifectas.
In the early going, Santa Fe has drained 22 three-pointers in total, with 11 in each of their first two outings.
A Moment with Mowry
Head Coach Chris Mowry: "It was a big win over a talented Palm Beach squad! Our guys came out firing on all cylinders in the first half. We really defended and rebounded well, which allowed us to get out in transition for some easy drives to the basket and drive and kick-three-pointers."
"Palm Beach came out aggressively in the second half, knocking us back on our heels a bit. Midway through the half, I thought we started matching their intensity and toughness, never letting them get within single digits. It was a great game for Douglas and Medor! Our bench played well again, with Medic shooting it from three and Hasan Abdul-Hakim with his all-around game. I couldn't imagine a better start to the season. We have a lot to improve on, but I couldn't be happier with our effort and enthusiasm this weekend!"
