Men's Basketball Downed by Polk State's Last Second Basket
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe men's basketball led most of the way at home in Central Conference play against Polk State College, but the Eagles were able to erase a ten-point halftime deficit before hitting a go-ahead, last second basket to stun the Saints, 64-63.
The Saints' offense was efficient and effective in the game's first 20 minutes to lead 40-30 at the halftime whistle, but Polk State's defense tightened up in the second half before Ishan White collected a loose ball in the paint and connected on a floater for what proved to be the game-winner.
With just 0.7 seconds on the clock, Santa Fe's Yaw Obeng-Mensah was able to corrall the Hail Mary inbound pass, but his hurried attempt while falling missed the mark.
It was the first loss for the Saints on the home floor, and first defeat in Central Conference play.
Three Saints were in double-figures offensively, led by 14 points from Bradley Douglas. Jay Medor finished with a stat line of 11 points and six assists, and Leonardo Da Campo matched a season-high with ten points on 5-of-7 shooting. Obeng-Mensah led Santa Fe on the glass, matching a career-high with 13 rebounds.
