Men's Basketball Fends Off ASA (Miami), 83-63
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Receiving votes Santa Fe College Men's Basketball improved to 7-1 in the nonconference schedule with an 83-63 victory over visiting ASA College (Miami).
Although there were times when it was a grind, the Saints eclipsed 80 points offensively for the sixth time this season and never trailed against the Silver Storm (2-5).
First Half – SF 45, HCC 28
Consecutive three-pointers from Bradley Douglas got the Saints started on the right foot, and SF established a 9-3 lead after another triple from Nicolas McClain as well.
After the Silver Storm were able to tie the game up at 9-9, SF responded with six unanswered points, all from McClain's three-point marksmanship.
ASA worked their way back to a tie, 15-15, when the Saints went on a 15-1 run, holding the Silver Storm scoreless for over four minutes of play and seizing control of a 30-16 advantage with under nine minutes to play in the half.
Moments later, Nasir Mann ignited the crowd with a highlight-reel dunk, and the SF lead grew to as large as 19 points, 40-21, after Hasan Abdul-Hakim canned a three-pointer at the 4:19 mark.
Second Half – SF 83, ASA 63
Despite the comfortable 17-point lead at the half for SF, ASA was able to slowly but surely chip away into the deficit a bit, led by the offensive performances from their guards.
The game lost a little bit of its flow, and ASA was able to draw to as close as 10 points, 66-56, with 7:40 to play.
Leading 67-57 moments later, however, the Saints put the pedal to the metal and put the game away with a 12-0 run, capped off by a three-pointer from G'Shan Aldridge.
The final minutes were routine, as the Saints pushed their record on the home floor to 4-0.
Key Statistics
SF outrebounded the undersized Silver Storm 53-35 and held the guests to just 31.5 percent shooting from the field (23-of-73).
Four Saints had double-figure scoring, led by 15 from Douglas and Brandon Farmer. Douglas' streak of double-digit scoring efforts reached 15, and he tied with Aldridge for a game-high with five assists.
Farmer was one rebound shy of a double-double, grabbing nine. Abdul-Hakim led the rebounding effort with ten, while Mann (12 points, 3-of-4 from deep) and Aldridge (10 points) were effective for the second unit.
McClain finished with nine points and nine rebounds, while Eddie Foster III continued to provide energy, chipping in seven points, nine rebounds, and five steals.
