Undefeated FSCJ Defeats Santa Fe
The Saints continue to struggle after a strong start to the season.
Jacksonville, FL- The Saints entered the contest against Florida State College of Jacksonville Blue Wave at 5-3 after receiving a tough loss from the hands of a determined Palm Beach State College team on this past Saturday. The Blue Wave entered the contest with an impressive 6-0 record.
Looking to maintain an unblemished record, the Blue Wave started out the game shooting with confidence from the field, led by #1 Tarence Guinyard, who started out the first half shooting 2-4 from behind the arc. Offensively, the Blue Wave had a well-balanced attack, shooting over 50% from three-point land and just under 50% from the inside. Defensively, the Saints started out playing stubborn defense on the inside led by #23 Macius Trowe, who had two back-back blocks. The well-balnced attack from the Blue Wave prevented them the Saints from finding their rhythm defensively. Offensively, the Saints struggled from the field in the first half, shooting only 38% and less than 15% from behind the arc.
The Saints came out on the attack and forcing the action early in the second half. Halftime adjustments were having evident, resulting in a more efficient offense. #21 Harvey Wilson lead the way starting out 3-4 from the floor along with #24 Makye Boles, who added another timely block, and #25 Ashton Lovette who cut the lead down to 11 points after hitting two free-throws. They each added a much needed spark for the Saints, respectively. #1 Tre Munson (back from injury) came on strong making a tough shot on the inside forcing an and-one situation. He went on to make the free-throw and managed to cut the lead to 6 points with 11:48 remaining in the game. By the 10 minute mark the score had only slightly grown to 10 points and then 17 points by the 8:23 mark, still in favor of the Blue Wave. #1 Tarence Guinyard had a lot to do with that, who had by this time hit 3 out of 5 from downtown, one of which created an and-one situation.
The Saints sill were showing signs of life by aggressively driving to the basket and creating free-throw opportunities. This also helped them to go into the bonus by the 7:43 mark. #1 Tre Munson and # 21 Harvey continued to lead the way for the Saints down the stretch combining for 18 second half points, but again #1 Tarence Guinyard, who sniped another few triples (8 for 16, totaling 31 points on the night) in the half and the Blue Wave attack proved to be too strong for the Saints tonight.
