LONGWOOD, Fla. – After dropping the first two games of the day at the Courtney Miller Invitational, Santa Fe softball responded to shut out No. 2 Indian River, 8-0.
GAME 1 – No. 19 Pensacola State College 7, Santa Fe College 3
Santa Fe fell in the day's opener to No. 19 Pensacola State. Cris'Deona Beasley pitched the whole game for the Saints, but the Pirates proved to have more firepower on this occasion in the 7-3 win.
GAME 2 - Gulf Coast State College 12, Santa Fe College 2 (5 Inn.)
Santa Fe fell behind 5-0 after the first three innings, and couldn't recover as the Saints suffered the 12-2, run-rule loss in five innings to Gulf Coast State College.
The Saints' two runs came in the fourth inning to make it a three-run game, but the Commodores tacked on seven runs in the fifth to spoil any comeback hopes for SF.
Jayelyn Carter had a two-RBI single to score Calen Hayes and Adrianna Saavedra. Grace Prom finished 2-of-3 from the plate, and Beasley had a double.
Gabrielle Mathre and Morgan Lebeda threw for the Saints, with Mathre being tagged with the loss.
GAME 3 - Santa Fe College 8, No. 2 Indian River State College 0 (5 Inn.)
The Saints beat the second-ranked Pioneers in a run-ruled, five-inning game to conclude the day.
Santa Fe brought five runs across in the first inning to take control early, batting around the order. Ashlyn Rogers' single scored Prom, then Carter scored after a walk from Neely Peterson.
Another walk from Shaela Bybee scored Rogers to make it 3-0, then later in the inning, Riley Schnyder had a two-RBI single to up the lead to 5-0.
Three more runs in the fourth made it 8-0. Rogers had another RBI single, and Bybee's bunt single drove in both Hayes and Rogers.
Starting pitcher Taylor Barrett was lights out from the circle to claim her fourth win of the season, earning the final out with a toss over to first base on a groundout. She allowed just two hits and four walks, while notching eight K's.
Fico's Focus
"I'm glad that we were able to finish the day on a high note," said Head Coach Lindsay Fico. "I'm proud of how our team bounced back after two tough losses earlier in the day."
"Taylor Barrett did a great job in the circle and honestly looked the most impressive she has so far this season. Our hitters stayed patient in the box and found a way to push runs across the plate when we needed them. The bottom of our lineup proved to be just as productive as the top in a few critical situations.
