TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Santa Fe softball was at Tallahassee Community College for the Saints' first competition since February 20, but the Eagles were able to tie up the season-series with a sweep on Thursday afternoon.
Santa Fe had previously earned two victories over Tallahassee on February 16, by 4-3 and 3-1 scores, but those results couldn't be replicated on the Eagles' home field.
GAME 1 – TCC 9, SF 1 (5 Inn.)
Ashlyn Rogers' home run in the second inning, her third of the season, represented the Saints' lone run in the opener.
Santa Fe had six hits in the five-inning game, but couldn't string them together to keep pace with the Eagles.
Tallahassee's offense was fueled by three home runs, including back-to-back long balls to conclude the game.
Key Statistics
Cris'Deona Beasley was charged with the loss from the circle, just her second of the season.
Jayelyn Carter and Rogers each had two hits, and Rogers' shot over the fence was the Saints' lone extra-base hit.
GAME 2 - TCC 3, SF 2
The bases were loaded for the Saints in the top of the third inning with one out recorded. Neely Peterson walked to score Grace Prom, producing the game's opening run. In the next at-bat, a sacrifice fly from Story Giebeig scored Rogers to put the Saints in front 2-0.
Tallahassee plated three runs in their at-bats in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead, and the Eagles were able to hold Santa Fe off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
The Saints had a baserunner at second base in the sixth inning and a baserunner at first base in the seventh inning, but the Eagles were able to strand each of them and turn a double play to earn the final out.
Key Statistics
Five different players for the Saints had a hit apiece, with Peterson hitting a double and walking in a run. Rogers finished 1-of-2 with a run scored and two walks.
Taylor Barrett tossed all six innings from the circle, finishing with a final line of nine hits allowed, three runs (two earned), one walk, and ten strikeouts. It was the fourth time in the last five outings that Barrett has notched double-digit K's, but first time she took the loss in such games.
Fico's Focus
"All kudos to TCC today," said Head Coach Lindsay Fico. "They outplayed us in every facet of both games, and they improved tremendously since the first time that we played them this season. We have to work hard to knock the rust off over the next few days before conference play starts Tuesday."
