DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Santa Fe Softball continued their winning ways and improved to 6-2 in Mid-Florida Conference play with two road wins over Daytona State, 14-6 and 10-1.
GAME 1 - SF 14, DSC 6
The Saints had their way with Falcons pitching, bringing across at least one run in every inning.
The game was tied at 2-2 after the first inning, but Morgan Lebeda's solo homer in the second inning put the Saints in front 3-2.
In the third, Madison Dixon stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a double, bringing in all three to hand SF a 6-2 lead.
The lead grew to 8-2, and was 9-4 after five and a half innings.
After the Falcons scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to draw to within three runs, 9-6, the Saints put the game away in the seventh with five runs.
The final run came across on a Taniah Bowers RBI triple, and the Falcons were kept off the scoreboard in the bottom half of the frame to conclude Game 1.
Key Statistics
The Saints' 14 runs came on 14 hits.
Keeli Zingaro was 3-of-4 with three runs scored, and Dixon finished 3-of-5 with the double and four RBI. Bowers had two hits and the triple, and Lebeda's home run was her second of the season.
Sophie Abrams earned the win from the circle to improve to 9-5. Kaylie Araujo entered in the sixth and recorded the final five outs.
GAME 2 - SF 10, DSC 1 (5 INN.)
The final game of the doubleheader was more of the same, as the Saints' bats continued their torrid pace and won it in five innings.
SF led 5-0 after three and half, and after Daytona State got on the scoreboard for the first time in the bottom of the fourth, the Saints invoked the run-rule by putting up five runs in the fifth.
Key Statistics
Darian Ingram (10-4) was the winning pitcher, tossing all five innings. Her final line included three hits, four walks, and four strikeouts.
Olivia Larkin and Lebeda had multi-hit efforts, accounting for all three of the extra-base hits as well. Lebeda doubled and had a two-run homer in the fifth, her second to clear the fence on the day, and Larkin legged out a triple.
