
Saints Come Up Big in Home Opener
Gainesville, FL- On Saturday, the Saints faced off against Florida State College at Jacksonville at home in a doubleheader. In the first game, the Saints won 8-4 with a walk-off grand slam by Juliann Smith. In the second game, the Saints won 10-5.
How It Happened
Game 1
Mallory Forrester started out in the circle for the Saints. She pitched two innings and threw 25 strikes out of 53 pitches with two strikeouts and five walks. She was relieved by Ryleigh Bauer, who pitched five innings with 46 strikes out of 65 pitches. Bauer struck out four batters with no walks.
FSCJ started off with the lead scoring four runs in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the second inning, Juliann Smith hit a two-run homer to score Karris Rhine, shrinking the Blue Wave's lead to 4-2.
In the fourth inning, Aliana Mercado doubled on a pop fly to center to score Juliann Smith, and Anna Burnside advanced to second base.
With the score tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning with bases loaded, Juliann Smith hit a walk-off grand slam to elevate her team to victory. Santa Fe won 8-4.
Game 2
Mallory Forrester stood in the circle for the Saints pitching the entire seven innings. She threw 92 pitches with 60 of them being strikes. She also had seven strikeouts and faced 32 batters.
Alexis Daphney homered to center field to put the Saints on the board in the first inning.
In the second inning, the Saints offense scored five runs.
The Blue Wave sought to turn the tide with a strong offensive attack, including a two-run homer, taking the lead 6-4.
The Saints would go on to score four more runs and won the game 10-5.
