Saints Fall Short in Double Header Against St. Johns River State College
Gainesville, FL. - On Thursday afternoon, the Saints battled against the St. Johns River State College Vikings at home after winning one of two games of their double header last Thursday at Tallahassee Community College. The Saints faced the Vikings in a double header, losing the first game 6-4 and losing the second 16-2. The Saints' record progresses to 5-5.
How It Happened
Game 1
Ryleigh Bauer started on the mound for the Saints. She threw 4.0 innings, allowing six hits and five earned runs. Peyton Bass came in as relief for Bauer, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing two hits and zero earned runs.
The Saints were scoreless at the bottom of the fifth inning, the score being 5-0. Sydney Fowler hit a homerun with two runners on making the score 5-4 moving into the top of the sixth. Both teams earned zero runs in the sixth inning.
At the top of the seventh, the Vikings scored one run, which the Saints were unable to match in the bottom of the inning. The final score of game one was 6-4 (Vikings).
Leading hitters for the Saints were Sydney Fowler and Juliann Smith, who both earned two hits. As a team, the Saints had seven hits, three RBI's (all three from Fowler), and four runs.
Leading hitters for the Vikings were Kendall Catherwood and Emily Griffin who both had two hits. Both Princess Arredondo and Caylee Elder hit home runs for the Vikings. The team had eight hits, six RBI's, and six runs.
Game 2
Mallory Forrester started pitching for the Saints. She pitched 2.1 innings, allowing one hit and six earned runs. Sydney Fowler entered the circle during the second inning. She pitched 3.0 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run. Ryleigh Bauer finished on the mound pitching 0.2 innings, allowing three hits, and three earned runs.
To put the Vikings on the board, Princess Arredondo hit a solo home run in the top of the second inning (1-0). The Vikings went on to score four more runs moving into the bottom of the inning.
Offensively, the leading hitter of the game for the Saints was Sydney Fowler with two hits. Gabrial Miles hit a home run in the same inning to close the gap; the score was 5-2 (Vikings) at the end of the fourth.
The Vikings scored four runs in the fifth and seven runs in the sixth to run away with the lead. The final score was 16-2 (Vikings).
