Saints Fall Short To NJCAA #3 Florida Southwestern
Gainesville FL- On Saturday, the Saints softball team faced the NJCCA #3 ranked team Florida Southwestern in a double header. Despite outhitting the Bucs in game one the Saints lose 3-6. The Bucs would also take game two (3-10).
How It Happened
Game One
The Florida Southwestern Bucs scored two runs in the first inning. Santa Fe would follow up the Bucs efforts with two runs of their own. Ariana Wright would spark the Saints offense by hitting a sac fly to right field to score Sydney Fowler. Kamaya Cohen scored on an error giving the Saints their second score of the game (2-2).
Sydney Fowler would lead the Saints in hitting as she went three for four at the plate. Juliann Smith went two for three and Kamaya Cohen went two for four on the day to help the Saints out hit the Bucs nine to five.
The Bucs had their biggest inning in the fourth as they would score three runs to the Saints zero. Both teams would score one run in the seventh inning. The final score was 6-3. Bucs win.
Game Two
Santa Fe came gained control early on by getting the first three batters out and then scoring the first run of the game in the 1st inning. Madi Conway singled on a hard ground ball to right field scoring Kamaya Cohen.
In the second inning the Saints would score two runs. Ariana Wright singled on a line drive to right field scoring Sydney Fowler and Anna Burnside (3-0, Saints). The Bucs followed up the Saints runs with an eight-run inning of their own in the third (3-8). Kamaya Cohen catches the final out of the inning to stop the Bucs run.
The Bucs would go on to score two more runs putting the score at 3-10. This would be the final score of the game.
