The Saints marched forward today with a win over the Gulf Coast Commodores.  Santa Fe will now play Friday, May 9th at 10:00 AM versus the loser of the Eastern Florida versus Chipola game which follows their game.  With the win the Saints stay in the mix for the Distric B Championship which will take two wins on Friday and a win on Saturday.

Once again the opponent got off to a quick start versus the Saints and the Commodores were the first push one across the plate and took the lead in the top of the first.  The Saints answered right back with two runs in the botoom on the first.  Karris Rhine opened the bottom of the first with a walk which once again set up a Madison Conway homerun.  The fences are set back at Eddie C. Moore Complex the booming center field homer easily cleared the fence and sent the bench into an all out celebration.  For Conway the two run homer continues to help her lead the FCSAA in homeruns and for the Saints it put them up for good.  

Ryleigh Bennett started in the circle for the Saints and earned the win while going five innings, striking out two and surrending four hits and only one run.  Alexis Daphney came in as the relief pitcher and not only sealed the victory in the circle but took it a step further at the plate in the bottom of the sixth.  Brooke Markiewicz got things started by beating out a ground ball to first as she reached on an error.  Next up was Camryn VanGalder who singled up the middle.  Tegan Grizzard bunted Markiewicz and VanGalder forward to second and third setting up the heroics of Daphney.  Daphney took the fourth pitch on a 1-2 count straight over the center field fence, again easily clearing the fence.  This capped the Saints scoring and gave them their final lead of 5-2.  The defense held steady in the top of seven and the Saints play on in the FCSAA Division I Softball Championships.

Santa Fe will now play at 10:00 AM on Friday at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater versus the loser of the Eastern Florida and Chipola 4:00 PM match up today.  With a win the Saints will then play at 7:00 PM in the Distric B Championship portion of the bracket.
