Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints snapped a four game losing streak on Thursday evening, defeating Pensacola State College 70-57 in front of their home crowd in Gainesville. It was the Saints first game at home since November 1.
Ashley Perry made a big impact on both ends of the floor scoring 12 points to go with six assists on offense, and also tallied 11 steals on defense, two shy of the school record set by Lucia Heston on January 9, 2001.
The Saints (6-6) never trailed and the game was tied only once at 2-2 a minute into the game. From there it was all SF as they led by as many as 17 in the first half and closed out the opening frame leading 36-21.
Santa Fe built the lead to 19 in the second half and never looked back as Sonya Frankin scored 10 of her 11 points in the second period to pace the Saints to a 13 point win.
Santa Fe forced 31 Pirate turnovers and collected 18 steals. They outrebounded Pensacola 53-38, including 30-16 in the second half.
Kayla Lovett led SF with 14 points, and Litisha Speights made the most of her minutes off the bench, scoring eight points to go with 11 rebounds in just over 13 minutes of action.
The Saints will host the SF Holiday Classic on December 5 and 6 with Palm Beach and Northwest Florida kicking things off at 6:00 PM on Friday and Santa Fe and Indian River tipping off at 8:00 PM. On Saturday Indian River and Northwest are slated for 2:00 PM and the Saints will host Palm Beach at 4:00 PM. Both Santa Fe games will be broadcast live on www.ihigh.com/santafesaints
