Gainesville, FL – A slow start doomed the Saints on Wednesday evening in Jacksonville as they fell behind by 15 at halftime to Florida State College-Jacksonville, and were never able to recover in a 73-60 defeat. The loss drops Santa Fe to 11-13 overall and 2-7 in Mid-Florida Conference play.
The Blue Wave controlled play in the first half and were able to get up 12 more shots and make five more than the Saints over the first 20 minutes in route to the 15 point point.
SF made things interesting in the second half, showing some fight to cut the lead to as little as five. FSC-J, however, was just too much down the stretch.
Four players scored in double figures for the Saints, including Karrah Johnson and Deja McPhee with 14 each, and Kayla Lovett and Sonya Franklin with 11 each. Amber Jones led FSC-J with 26.
The Saints will battle College of Central Florida on Saturday, February 14 at 2:00 PM in their "Cancer Awareness Game". All fans who wear pink will receive a free slice of pizza at the first halftime break. There will be a shooting contest at halftime with prizes, and two second half drawings for $50 restaurant gift certificates.
