Hillsborough Hawks hold off Saints, 58-56
The Santa Fe Saints (1-1) struggled to put the ball in the basket on Saturday afternoon and it cost them in the end as the Hillsborough CC Hawks came away with a 58-56 win.
The Saints had three players record double-doubles with Airneisha Gamble leading the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Chardell Jones scored 12 to go with 12 boards while Rhea Smith had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
"I am pleased to have three players with double-doubles," said Head Coach Chanda Stebbins, "but we needed more energy today. I will have to find the right combination of players that can give us the energy we need for the whole game."
The Saints shot just 32% from the floor on the day including 2 of 17 from 3-point land. They failed to score for the final two minutes of the game when they went 0-for-6 shooting the basketball.
"Our shots weren't falling and that is something we have to work on," said Stebbins.
Santa Fe will travel to take on Florida Southwestern State College next Friday. The Saints next home game will be against St. Petersburg College at 6:00 pm on November 14.
