Saints Take Down Titans, 66-59
The Santa Fe Saints outscored Eastern Florida State College 14-8 over the final eight minutes of the game to preserve a 66-59 win and even their record to 3-3 at the SF gymnasium Friday night.
A two-point basket by Camille Pringle from the paint gave the Saints a 9-0 lead to begin the game and the Saints led 19-12 at the end of the opening quarter. The Saints were aggressive on both ends of the floor and took a 35-27 lead into the locker room at the half.
"We did a much more effective job in the first half of rebounding." Said Head Coach Chanda Stebbins.
EFSC (5-2) rallied back to tie the game at 40-40 on a close range shot by Sierra Votaw with less than five minutes to play in the third quarter, but the Saints regained control and the lead taking a 50-46 advantage into the final period.
The Titans got it back to a one-possession game multiple times in the fourth quarter, but a free throw by Stephanie Jackson gave the Saints a 62-54 lead in the closing minute to seal the win.
"We are fortunate to have a lot of scorers on the team," said Stebbins. "I will be excited when everyone contributes consistently."
Airneisha Gamble led the Saints with 16 points while Janasia Law scored 12 and Jackson 11. Votaw led all scorers with 19 points for the Titans.
The Saints will host Pensacola State College on Sunday with a 2 pm tip off scheduled.
