Saints Dominate ASA in 84-52 Win
The Santa Fe Saints used a suffocating defense and powerful offense to earn an 84-52 win over ASA Miami in day two of the Florida College System Women's Basketball shootout in Fort Myers Friday night.
"I am very happy with how hard we played on a back-to-back game situation after a long day of sitting around," said SF Head Coach Chanda Stebbins.
Airneisha Gamble scored to give the Saints a 20-11 lead at the end of the first period and the Saints kept up the intensity in period two to take a 42-21 lead at the half.
The two teams each scored 21 points in the third quarter but the Saints outscored the Avengers 21-10 in the final period to provide the final margin.
Everybody played and all five starters scored in double figures led by Gamble who scored 23 points and registered a game high six assists. Chardell Jones and Rhea Smith scored 11 apiece while Janasia Law and Stephanie Jackson each scored 10.
Jones also pulled down 11 rebounds to complete the double-double while Keaubree Edwards came off the bench and led all players with 13 rebounds.
"I thought we played hard and I am very proud of Kee and CJ for their rebounding efforts," said Stebbins.
It was the fifth win in the last six games for Santa Fe (5-4) who will be off until the host DME Academy at the SF Gymnasium at 6 pm on December 6.
