Saints Sail Over Blue Wave, 91-38
The Santa Fe Saints opened Mid-Florida Conference play in a dominating fashion with a 91-38 win over Florida State College @ Jacksonville Saturday afternoon.
"We are very proud of how hard our team played today," said SF Head Coach Chanda Stebbins. "It was nice to see us playing unselfishly and making the extra pass."
The Saints held an unimaginable 16-1 lead after the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Stephanie Jackson scored eight of the Saints 16 first quarter points while Kayla Mansell kept the Blue Wave from being blanked through the first 10 minutes by hitting a free throw 3:21 into the game.
"I liked our defensive effort and really enjoyed watching our offensive execution," said Stebbins.
The Saints (10-6, 1-0 MFC) led by 33 at the half and 43 after three quarters leading to the 53-point victory.
SF freshman Danasia Bogle led all scorers with a college career high 24 points. The 5-foot-7 guard out of Leesburg came into the game averaging 5.9 ppg. Jackson finished with 17 points while Airneisha Gamble chipped in with 13 and Janasia Law added 12.
"It was nice to get a win to open conference play," said Stebbins. "We look forward our game against Daytona State Wednesday night."
The Saints, ranked ninth in the latest FCSAA poll, will host the Falcons at the SF gymnasium for a 6 pm tip off.
