Women Get Win Over CF
Saints women's basketball remained at the top of the Mid-Florida Conference Standings with a 72-52 home win over College of Central Florida Patriots on Saturday afternoon.
After starting the game with an 8-0 lead, the first quarter showed both team battling on every possession. It wasn't until the second quarter that the Saints started to clamp down defensively, where they held the Patriots to eight points.
" I am pleased with our defense especially in the second quarter,' said Saints Head Coach Chanda Stebbins.
The Saints showed grit through the second half, even when shots weren't falling in their favor. "We have to learn to play hard through missed shots and not let that rattle us." Stebbins continued, "very proud of the second half rebounding margin of plus-12 – if we can rebound like that all the time we make missed shots less of an issue. Additionally, our rebounds came from a number of people which is great too!"
Steady balanced scoring and rebounding propelled the team to its 15th win of the season. Chardell Jones earned a double-double with her contributions 15 points and 11 rebounds. Teammates Julie Fournier chipped in 12 points while Danasia Bogle added 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Saints (15-7, 5-1 MFC) play at home against Albany Technical College on Monday, February 4 at 6:00 p.m.
