Saints Fall to South Georgia in Season Opener
Saints women's basketball took on the challenge of opening their season against South Georgia Technical College on the road but unfortunately took a loss, 82-55, on Friday, November 1.
The Saints started the game strong and kept up with the Lady Jets on a 15-17 first quarter but was outpaced in the second and third quarters.
Saints head coach Chanda Stebbins stated, "We played well in the first and fourth (quarters) but couldn't do it for four straight."
Opponent sizing hampered the Saints' offensive efforts. "We didn't have much inside presence to counter their bigs. I was proud that our only available 6'0" player Teagan played well. We must continue to work on the process of improving each possession, said Stebbins.
On the positive side, the Saints grabbed 48 rebounds – just as many as the Lady Jets. Stebbins said, "I was also pleased that we rebounded well against a team that really was much bigger than us."
The Saints' top scorer was Teagan Rothrock with 14 points. Yairé Rodriguez contributed 11 points and returners Danasia Bogle and Camille Pringle had nine points each.
The Saints (0-1, 0-0 MFC) will face Central Georgia Technical College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in their second game of the Lady Jets Tip-Off Classic.
