Saints Lose Close Game Against Central Georgia
It was a closely contested game every step of the way between the Saints women's basketball team and Central Georgia Technical College on Saturday November 2nd, but unfortunately the Saints came up short in a 67-60 loss.
After the first half, the Saints trailed by three points (25-28). Over the course of the game, the Saints bested the Titans in rebounds, free throws and second-chance points, but the Titans' three-point shooting put the team in position to steal the win.
It was 58-58 with 80 seconds to go and the Titans hit two free throws and then the Saints hit a transition layup, tying the game at 60-60 with about 58 seconds left. Central Georgia hit a three-pointer with 38 seconds, forcing the Saints to foul to get their opponents to earn points from the stripe.
The Saints could not recover from a turnover in the final seconds of the game.
Saints head coach Chanda Stebbins said, " We shot terribly from the three-point line, but we played solid and better today. I was pleased again with our guard rebounding efforts and did a better job today withstanding their runs and putting a limit to that. We need to get more of a scoring punch and hopefully as some players return that will help."
Surmising the experience at the Lady Jets Tip-Off Classic over the weekend, Stebbins stated, "We will grow from this and continue to get better."
Rosalee Nicholson led the way for the Saints with 13 points and eight rebounds. Yairé Rodriguez and Teagan Rothrock contributed 11 points apiece.
The Saints (0-2, 0-0 MFC) return to the court for their home opener on Wednesday, November 6 against Elite Sports for a 6 p.m. game.
