Saints Earn Win Against Indian River, 85-69
The Saints women's basketball team defended home court against the Indian River State College Pioneers on Saturday, November 9 in an 85-69 win.
Rebounding was a crucial factor in the win as the Saints gained numerous opportunities for second-chance points with 22 offensive rebounds.
Saints head coach Chanda Stebbins stated, " We were out-rebounded by two at the end of the first half. We turned up the intensity in the second to create a 22-rebound margin in our favor."
Rebounding came from many different Saints players, including the guards. "Having rebounds from our guards was huge," Stebbins said.
Talking about the offensive effort, Stebbins said, "We had a big third quarter – shooting the ball much better in the second half versus the first."
Leading scorer for the Saints was Taniah Bowers with 16 points and seven rebounds. Yairé Rodriguez also had a great game with 13 points and six assists.
Rosalee Nicholson led the team with 10 rebounds to go with her three assists. Forward Aleisha Curry had eight rebounds and five assists, and even took a charge for the team.
Adding to the defensive effort off the bench was Zoé Alexander with seven rebounds.
The Saints (2-2, 0-0 MFC) look to defend home court as they host Tallahassee Community College on Tuesday, November 12, 5:30 p.m.
