Saints Fall to Pensacola State
Saints women's basketball came up short in a road loss against the state-ranked #6 Pensacola State College Pirates 61-49 on Saturday, November 16.
Both teams kept the scores close throughout three quarters. It was in the fourth stanza that the Saints struggled to get on the board.
Still trying to keep the game close with not much luck on offense, it turned into a defensive battle as the Saints put the Pirates on the free throw line hoping the Pirates would not be able to convert.
Referencing the defense, Saints head coach Chanda Stebbins said, "Zoé Alexander and Aleisha Curry fouled as did two of their players – we were one-of-six on free throws in the fourth quarter (while) they made seven fourth quarter foul shots." Stebbins continued, "We need to keep working on ways to score. I was happy with how hard our players played and the effort they showed. We hope to help them get to the next level of thinking when they are away from the ball on offense."
Stebbins added, "Not too bad [Saints] for being short on depth, but we will continue to get better."
Lauren Carmona had 10 points and six rebounds and Taniah Bowers tallied nine points with four rebounds and three steals.
Curry contributed eight points in addition to 15 rebounds.
In their next challenge, the Saints (3-4, 0-0 MFC) head to Tampa to take on Hillsborough Community College on Wednesday, November 20 for a 5:30 p.m. game.
