Saints Claim Win on Road at Hillsborough CC
Saints women's basketball secured a 78-71 win over the Hillsborough Community College Hawks in Tampa Wednesday, November 20.
Off to a slow start, the Saints trailed ending the first quarter behind 14-9 before they turned it around with a massive second stanza behind offensive surges from Peris Starks and Zoé Alexander. By halftime, the Saints were on top 34-29.
The game would remain close in the second half and the Hawks pressured the Saints into earning points at the free throw line. The Saints went 13-for-17 at the stripe and made almost all their fourth quarter points at the line.
"Proud of the team win today," said Saints head coach Chanda Stebbins. She continued, "We got great minutes from eleven people."
Keeping themselves in the game with their foul shots, the Saints also controlled their offense with a steady and mindful hand.
Stebbins added, "We did a good job taking care of the ball with only a few turnovers and I'm so proud of our foul shooting in the fourth quarter."
Aleisha Curry had a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds. Alexander ended the game with 14 points and seven rebounds. Taniah Bowers contributed five points with 11 rebounds while Danasia Bogle had four points and seven rebounds.
On Friday, November 22 the Saints (4-4, 0-0 MFC) host DME Academy for a 6 p.m. game at home.
