Saints Fall to Daytona, 63-59
The Santa Fe Saints rallied back from a 13 point deficit to take a lead in the final minute but couldn't hold on and fell 63-59 to Daytona State College in the Mid-Florida Conference matchup.
Trailing 54-41 with just over six minutes to play Chardell Jones hit a pair of free throws and back-to-back baskets from inside to get the comeback started and a 3-pointer from the corner by Rosalee Nicholson put the Saints in front 59-58 with 44 seconds to play.
Paris Williams answered with a 3-pointer for Daytona and the Falcons (12-6, 1-0 MFC) made two free throws in the closing seconds to get the win.
"Proud of how hard we played and the fact that we out rebounded them," said SF head coach Chanda Stebbins. "We again missed double digit foul shots and shot miserably in the second and third quarters."
Aleisha Curry recorded a double-double with 16 rebounds and 18 points for the Saints while Jones chipped in with 11 points.
SF (9-9, 1-1 MFC) will travel to Palm Beach on Saturday for a non-conference game and will return home to take on St. Petersburg next Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
