Women's Basketball Bested at St. Petersburg, 81-69
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Santa Fe women's basketball traveled to St. Petersburg on Saturday afternoon, falling by an 81-69 score against the Titans.
First Quarter - SF 20, SPC 16
In what was a back-and-forth game of runs, it started out ugly for the Saints. Saint Petersburg College stormed out to a 10-0 lead.
A quick timeout by Coach Chanda Stebbins and back-to-back 3-pointers from Lauren Carmona and Kelli Cunningham led to a 13-2 swing by the Saints. After the hot start by the Titans, the Saints closed out the first quarter with a 20-6 run and held a 20-16 lead at the end of one.
Second Quarter - SF 36, SPC 35
The second quarter started with another run by the Titans before it started to go back and forth. Carmona had another strong quarter of play, and the Saints took a 36-35 lead into the half.
Third Quarter - SPC 56, SF 54
The Titans opened the third quarter with yet another run. Jasani Buchanan had the hot hand this quarter, scoring six to keep the Saints close. At the end of three, the Titans held a 56-54 lead.
Fourth Quarter - SPC 81, SF 69
The final quarter saw both teams exchange three-pointers to open. After that, the turnover bug hit the Saints and the Titans took advantage in a major way. The Titans scored 25 in the fourth, eventually winning 81-69.
Key Statistics
The Saints hit nine three-pointers, led by Carmona and Cunningham with four each.
Carmona and Cunningham led SF with 16 points apiece. Buchanon and Zoé Alexander were also in double-figures with 14 points and 12 points, respectively.
Alexander's final line also included six assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Buchanan had a double-double with a season-high 11 rebounds, and also swatted four shots to match a season-high in that category.
