Women’s Basketball Pulls Away for Road Win at Daytona State, 71-65
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Santa Fe women's basketball won their first road game this season and second-consecutive game in Central Conference play, executing well in the final quarter to pull away from the Falcons down the stretch.
First Quarter – SF 24, DSC 16
Daytona State was able to start the game on a 5-0 run after two quick scores. Jasani Buchanan, however, had a big block in the paint that led to a three-pointer from Andrea Torres to spark Santa Fe's energy.
The lead changed back-and-forth before an 8-0 run at the end of the quarter by Torres, consisting of a pair of back to back triples followed by a steal and a layup all within a minute to put Santa Fe up 24-16.
Second Quarter – DSC 35, SF 34
The second quarter got off to a slow start for both teams, with only two buckets in the first four minutes. The Falcons went on a run to draw to within four, before two quick scores by the Saints forced the Falcon's head coach to call a timeout.
Daytona State came out of the timeout and went on an 11-0 run to end the half, which included a layup at the buzzer to go up 35-34 at the half.
Third Quarter – DSC 48, SF 47
The Falcons came out fast in the second half, but a steal and score from Zoé Alexander halted the Falcon's momentum. The Saints kept the game within reach, and regained the lead when Lauren Carmona stepped into a three and put the Saints up 43-41.
Daytona State proceeded to go on their own 7-0 run to take the lead once again, 48-43, but Santa Fe concluded the third quarter with two baskets to trail by just one headed into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter – SF 71, DSC 65
Similarly to the second quarter, the fourth got off to a slow start with only two scores in the first four minutes. Both baskets were by the Saints, which put them in front 52-48.
Another triple by Andrea Torres put the Saints up by six with four minutes left and gave the Saints all the momentum. Ensuing layups from Carmona and Taniah Bowers put the Saints up 62-52, and Santa Fe never looked back despite Daytona State's best efforts to extend the final minute to make a comeback.
Key Statistics
Alexander led Santa Fe with 22 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists.
Buchanan contributed nine points and snagged a season-high 16 rebounds. Bowers had a well-rounded statistical effort with eight points, a career-high seven assists, six rebounds, and three steals.

"We got really solid contributions from everyone that played," said Head Coach Chanda Stebbins. "Now our focus is on St. Pete."
