Women’s Basketball Comes up Short vs. Hillsborough, 72-62
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe women's basketball dropped their third-straight game on Friday evening, dropping a 72-62 result to visiting Hillsborough.
First Quarter – HCC 19, SF 17
The first seven points of the game went to the Saints.
Hillsborough countered with five three-pointers in the quarter, however, and led 19-17 after the first ten minutes of play.
Second Quarter – HCC 33, SF 31
Lauren Carmona hit a triple to conclude the half, but Hillsborough still clung to the two-point lead,
Carmona and Taniah Bowers combined for 12 of the Saints' 14 points in the frame.
Third Quarter – HCC 49, SF 42
The Hawks scored the second half's opening seven points, establishing a 40-31 lead.
The Saints countered with a 7-0 run of their own to get back to within a possession, 40-38.
Santa Fe could never draw even or regain the lead, however, and Hillsborough led by seven points headed into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter – HCC 72, SF 62
The deficit for Santa Fe grew as large as 12 points, 61-49.
The Saints trimmed it down to six points, 64-58, with a little over three minutes to play, spearheaded by six points from Jasani Buchanan.
Hillsborough was able to hold off the Saints down the stretch, however, and took the first game between the two Central Conference teams.
Key Statistics
The Hawks did most of their damage from beyond the arc, connecting on 14 three-pointers to get past Santa Fe.
Carmona paced the Saints' offense with 16 points, tying a season-high. She went 4-of-4 from the free-throw line and sunk two three-pointers.
Buchanan was the only other Saint in double-figure scoring, as she notched her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 16 rebounds.
