Women's Basketball Downed by Eastern Florida, 83-57
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe women's basketball hosted Eastern Florida State College for the second time this week, and the Titans came away with an 83-57 result inside the SF Gymnasium.
First Quarter – EF 22, SF 9
The Saints led 7-3 in the early going, with three early points from Jasani Buchanan.
Eastern Florida quickly responded with 11 unanswered points to grab a 14-7 lead, stopped only by a nice finish at the basket from Lauren Carmona.
After Carmona's basket, the Titans proceeded to finish the quarter with another big run, 8-0, to lead 22-9. Santa Fe was unable to defend the perimeter in the first quarter, as Eastern Florida connected on six three-pointers.
Second Quarter – EF 45, SF 26
Zoé Alexander opened the second frame with a lay-in off a nice drive, but the Titans started a 15-3 surge and established a 37-14 lead.
Santa Fe went into the halftime break trailing by 19, 45-26, after Alexander sunk her fourth field goal of the half.
Third Quarter – EF 67, SF 42
The Saints had seven unanswered points during a stretch of play in the quarter, and trimmed their deficit down to 14 points, 52-38, after a triple from Renee Clines.
After ending the quarter on a 15-4 run, however, Eastern Florida held the 25-point lead headed into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter – EF 83, SF 57
Buchanan and Alexander each contributed five points in the final quarter, but Santa Fe dropped the contest by a final score of 83-57.
Key Statistics
Alexander had 17 points on eight made field goals. Carmona added 11 points with two made three-pointers, and Buchanan was also in double-digits with ten points.
Clines led SF with three triples to account for her nine points in the game.
