Women's Basketball Falls to Daytona State in Final Home Game
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe women's basketball took to their home floor for the final time this season, and fell to Daytona State, 70-61.
First Quarter – DSC 19, SF 10
The Saints struggled out of the gate, and fell into a 15-0 deficit to the Falcons.
Santa Fe's first basket didn't come until the 3:36 mark, when the bench started to provide a spark. Peris Starks scored inside, Renee Clines hit a floater, and Starks got another bucket to bring the score to 15-6.
Clines hit a three-pointer later in the quarter, but SF still trailed, 19-10 at the end of the first.
Second Quarter – SF 30, DSC 28
Trailing 23-14, SF started a big run. Andrea Torres' three-pointer with 3:14 on the clock handed the Saints their first lead of the game, 24-23. When Daytona State finally broke their scoring drought, Santa Fe had rattled off 14 straight points to lead 28-23.
The Saints outscored Daytona State 20-9 in the frame to go into halftime with the two-point lead, 30-28.
Third Quarter – DSC 54, SF 42
The Falcons regained a lead by scoring the second half's first six points.
Daytona State led 41-37 about midway through the third, when the Falcons proceeded to produce the game's next 11 points to match their largest lead of the game, 52-37.
The Falcons' lead sat at 12, 54-42, headed into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter – DSC 70, SF 61
Clines sunk two triples in the fourth and Keliyah Johnson had two baskets, but Santa Fe was unable to get any closer than eight points the rest of the way as the Falcons beat the Saints for the second time in the teams' three matchups this season.
Key Statistics
Clines led Santa Fe in scoring, finishing with 11 points on three triples. Starks had a career-high nine points, which was matched by nine from Torres on three triples of her own.
