No. 21 Eastern Florida Gets the Best of Women’s Basketball, 80-63
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Santa Fe Women's Basketball played host to Central Conference leading, No. 21 Eastern Florida (19-3, 6-0) on Saturday, and although the Saints were neck-and-neck early, the Titans pulled away in the second half to prevail 80-63.
First Quarter – #21 EFSC 18, SF 18
The game's first five points went to the Saints, after a triple from Kelli Cunningham and bucket from Selah Reddick.
The Titans took their first lead at the quarter's midway point, 10-7, then established a 15-10 lead.
The Saints, however, ended the quarter on an 8-3 run, which included three-pointers from Taniah Bowers and Malea Brown.
Second Quarter – #21 EFSC 38, SF 34
Eastern Florida netted the second quarter's first seven points, opening up their largest advantage so far, 25-18.
The lead reached as high as 11, 36-25, as the halftime whistle approached.
Once again though, the Saints finished the quarter strongly on their home floor, outscoring the Titans 9-2 over the final four minutes of play.
Bowers had five points during that stretch, including a jumper right at the horn.
Third Quarter – #21 EFSC 61, SF 46
The Titans gained some separation right back in the third quarter, however, outscoring SF 23-12.
Eastern Florida went 5-of-9 from three-point land in the quarter, and outrebounded SF, 16-10.
Fourth Quarter – #21 EFSC 80, SF 63
The lead reached its largest at 22 points in the fourth quarter, and the SF offense was unable to muster enough baskets to work their way back into the contest, falling to the Titans for the second time this season.
Key Statistics
Bowers notched 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting, 2-of-2 from deep, and 5-of-7 from the line. She added four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Brown and Cunningham each finished with 14 points of their own.
