No. 16 Eastern Florida Too Much for Women's Basketball, 86-46
MELBOURNE, Fla. – No. 16 Eastern Florida clinched the Central Conference title on Wednesday evening on their home floor, controlling play throughout in an 86-46 win over Santa Fe women's basketball.
The Titans showed why they have yet to lose so far in Central Conference play and went 16-of-25 from beyond the three-point line in an impressive shooting performance.
First Quarter – #16 EFSC 25, SF 13
The Saints started off well and accounted for the opening five points, after a triple from Selah Reddick and basket from Malea Brown.
Eastern Florida, however, took their first lead of the game at 9-7 with 4:07 left in the quarter.
The Titans sunk 6-of-10 in the frame from beyond the arc to claim the double-digit lead.
Second Quarter – #16 EFSC 48, SF 22
Brown had seven points in the second quarter for the Saints' cause, but Eastern Florida only extended their lead, holding SF to nine points.
Third Quarter – #16 EFSC 68, SF 34
Brown hit a triple to trim the deficit to 18 points with 6:59 on the clock, but a 10-0 run from the hosts extended the lead right back up once again headed into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter – #16 EFSC 86, SF 46
The Titans pushed their lead to as large as 41 points, and closed out their third win over the Saints this season.
Key Statistics
Eastern Florida won the rebounding battle, 54-37, more often than not limiting SF to one shot.
Santa Fe did well when they made it to the free-throw line, making 16-of-21.
Brown was the lone Saint in double-figures, eclipsing 20 points for the fifth time this season. Curry had nine points and five rebounds, while Taniah Bowers controlled a team-high eight rebounds.
