Women's Basketball Downed at Daytona State in Season Finale, 75-56
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 2021-2022 regular season came to a close for Santa Fe College Women's Basketball on Monday, as the Saints were downed by the Daytona State Falcons, 75-56.
First Quarter – SF 21, DSC 17
The Saints got off to a great start in the season's third matchup with the Falcons and raced out to a lead as large as 15 points, 21-6.
Olivia Smith poured in eight of the team's first 11 points, and Taniah Bowers had the final seven points during the stretch of play for the Saints.
The Falcons, however, produced the last 11 points of the quarter to draw to within two possessions.
Second Quarter – DSC 35, SF 28
The SF offense fell into a rut and was held to just 3-of-14 from the floor in the second frame.
The Falcons outpaced Santa Fe 18-7 in the second quarter to grab their first lead of the game.
Third Quarter – DSC 52, SF 40
Santa Fe did well to often stop the Falcons' initial attempts at the basket, but DSC created second chances with numerous offensive rebounds in the third quarter.
Malea Brown had seven points in the third to help keep SF within striking distance.
Fourth Quarter – DSC 75, SF 56
A comeback was not meant to be, however, as the Falcons did what was needed down the stretch to win the grudge match between the two sides and punch their ticket to the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 State Tournament with one regular season game remaining.
Santa Fe (13-14, 5-7 Central) on the other hand concluded their regular season. The Saints were able to win three of five down the stretch, including one victory at Daytona State, 67-57, on Feb. 9.
