No. 9 Gulf Coast Tops Women's Basketball, 74-42
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Santa Fe College women's basketball fell to 2-2 on the season with a 74-42 defeat at the hands of the No. 9-ranked Gulf Coast State College Commodores.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Commodores flexed their muscle early and came out to a lead that grew as large as 15 points in the opening quarter, 22-7.
The Saints played well in the second quarter, however, outscoring GCS 20-17 in the frame. SF trailed 39-29 at the halftime whistle and were led by nine points from Malea Brown and seven from Joey Delancy.
The Commodores were forced into nine turnovers and held to just 33 percent from the floor, giving SF optimism they could continue to trim the deficit in the second half.
That would not be the case, however, as the guests held the Saints to just seven third quarter points, opening up a 59-36 lead at the end of the third on the strength of a 19-2 run.
Santa Fe struggled to penetrate past the Gulf Coast defense the rest of the way and were held to their lowest scoring output of the season in the defeat to the Commodores.
