Receiving Votes Pensacola Gets the Better of Women's Basketball, 71-59
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Day 1 of the FCSAA/NJCAA Region VIII Women's Basketball Shootout was hosted Friday inside the Santa Fe College Gymnasium, and in the nightcap, SF fell to receiving votes Pensacola State College by a 71-59 score.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints trailed by just one, 19-18 after the opening quarter, and the hosts came out ready to play against the 9-2 Pirates.
Malea Brown (7 points) and Joey Delancy (6 points) paced the SF offense in the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, Pensacola ended the half with an 11-2 run to lead by ten, 36-26. The Saints were held to just 21.1 percent from the field in the frame and faced the double-digit deficit.
Brown started the second half with a triple, but the Pirates proceeded to start another 11-2 run to establish a 16-point lead, 47-31, midway through the third.
The basket seemed to be closed for the Saints for a stretch, and the margin grew to as large as 25 points, 68-43, as the clock went under five minutes left to play.
SF played to the final whistle and made a strong surge, outscoring Pensacola 16-3 in the final minutes, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

KEY STATISTICS
Brown finished with a game-high 25 points, and Delancy had 15.
Selah Reddick led the team with ten rebounds, but SF was outrebounded 57-41 and the Pirates held the advantage in the paint, 40-16.
Pensacola didn't shoot all too well from the free-throw line, but did produce 18 points from the stripe in the win.
