No. 3 Eastern Florida Tops Women's Basketball, 76-52
MELBOURNE, Fla. – Santa Fe College women's basketball had its three-game winning streak snapped by No, 3 Eastern Florida State College (21-1, 5-0 Central), 76-52.
The game between the two sides was very similar to the last meeting, with the Titans pulling away in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Santa Fe played a high-level opening half.
The Saints led 25-20 at the end of the first quarter, shooting 53.3 percent from the field and paced by 11 points from Malea Brown. SF went on a 10-0 spurt towards the end of the frame to seize the advantage.
The lead would hold until midway through the second quarter when the Titans' Amelia Hassett found a basket in the paint, but SF responded quickly with a triple from Selah Reddick to regain the lead and bring the score to 34-32.
The Saints stayed in front all the way until the halftime whistle and led 41-40. SF was 5-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc and was shooting 45.2 percent. Brown had 16 points and Isabella Reynolds had 10, giving the Saints some hope in handing the Titans a first Central Conference loss.
That was not to be, however, as the Titans put the clamps down defensively in the third quarter. SF was outscored 18-2 in the third, with the only two points coming from the free-throw line.
With baskets seemingly impossible to come by (SF was 0-of-18 in the third quarter), the Titans opened up a 58-43 lead.
It wasn't until the 4:37 mark of the fourth quarter that Brown scored the team's first second half basket, and by that point, the game was out of reach.
The No. 3 Titans went on for the 76-52 result inside the Titans Fieldhouse, remaining unbeaten in Central Conference play.
