Women's Basketball Knocks Off FSCJ in OT, 68-64
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In the second overtime game of the 2022-2023 season, Santa Fe College women's basketball held off Florida State College at Jacksonville by a 68-64 score, winning the season series 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints got off to a slow start, and FSCJ led all the way until late in the opening half.
Trailing 26-20, SF went on a 9-0 run to take its first lead of the game, 29-26, with 1:05 left in the half. Joey Delancy and Triniti Youngblood combined to score all nine of the points during the run.
The three-point lead would hold headed into the halftime break, 33-30, with Irene Kabassubabo beating the buzzer with a bucket from the paint.
The Saints' lead grew to as large as seven points in the third quarter, but FSCJ tied the game for a second time with a 9-2 spurt.
Youngblood's old-fashioned three-point play would help SF still lead by three headed into the final quarter, 46-43.
The Blue Wave took control at the start of the fourth quarter and led by four, 57-53, with about four minutes left to play.
SF kept its composure, however, and Joey Delancy's game-tying basket with 33 seconds left would be the final points of regulation. FSCJ had a couple of scoring opportunities in the waning seconds, but each chance came up empty.
In the overtime, a quick bucket from Youngblood set the tone for the last five minutes of play. After FSCJ tied it, Malea Brown converted on a triple, and the Saints never trailed the rest of the way.
The Saints forced five FSCJ turnovers in the overtime session, and Delancy produced the final four points for SF to help secure the victory.
