
Saints Outlast DME Academy in Home Opener
Saints Bolster a big 4th quarter to remain undefeated on the season.
Gainesville, FL- The Saints open at home with a win against DME Academy by a score of 72-62 to remain undefeated on the year. Their last game took place on November 4th when they defeated Florida State College of Jacksonville. Early on in the game the Saints jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead. However, DME rallied back to even the score at 12-12 by the end of the first quarter.
Camryn Robinson lead the charge for the Saints in the second quarter by hitting two timely 3 pointers to help the Saints build momentum. Shakiria Chaney also contributed with scrappy play leading to a couple of steals and easy layups. Towards the end of the second quarter Samari Wilson made a key rebound that lead to a Camryn Robinson 3 point shot. She also pulled down a rebound taking the distance of the court for a layup to give the Saints a 7 point halftime lead.
DME came out strong in the third quarter, hitting four straight 3 point shots, totaling five in the quarter. Ashley Chio was responsible for three of those shots along with several assists that helped them to jump out to a four point lead by the end of the third quarter. The Saints couldn't seem to convert on open opportunities which caused them to trail after a strong first half.
The Saints looking to bounce back from a lackluster third quarter, responded immediately with clutch shots from Joey Delancy (two three pointers and one mid-range shot), Shakiria Chaney made a lay-up with five minutes remaining to help the Saints retake a 57-56 lead. They never looked back as they scored 15 more points giving them a 24 point fourth quarter leading to a 10 point victory over DME Academy.
