Saints Comeback for Overtime Win
Shakiria Chaney, Aissatou Diallo, and Joey Delancy all scored double digit points in the second half/overtime as the Saints overcame a double digit deficit.
Gainesville, FL - The Santa Fe Saints earned a thrilling 56-55 win at home Tuesday night against Florida Southwestern State College. Hillsborough Community College (HCC) won 88-84 at Daytona State College Tuesday night. The Saints orchestrated a second-half comeback to earn an 85-81 overtime win against HCC.
How it Happened
The Saints were unable to capitalize on their first few three point attempts, and HCC jumped out to a 9-0 lead, forcing a Saints timeout at the 6:50 mark in the first quarter. Following the timeout, Leyah Houston made a layup and Joey Delancy hit a mid-range shot to cut the deficit to 4-9.
The Saints were able to cut the deficit to 26-28 with a three by Khaleah Douglas, her second of the quarter. Leyah Houston was ejected at the 4:35 mark. HCC was able to extend the lead to 39-26 with 3 threes by Asnate Gerke.
HCC jumped out to a 52-41 lead at the under 5 minutes media timeout. HCC kept a 60-52 lead entering the fourth quarter.
A pair of free throws by Aissatou Diallo cut the deficit to 61-64, and a layup by Diallo made it a one-score game at 63-64 at the under 5 media timeout. Another layup by Diallo (assisted by Shakiria Chaney) gave the Saints their first lead at 65-64. The score was tied 69-69 as HCC called a timeout with 2:11 left in the quarter. A steal by Delancy and assist to Diallo gave the Saints a 72-69 lead with just under a minute left. Chaney's layup came up short as time expired in regulation.
The Saints jumped out to a 78-74 lead in overtime with a converted and-1 by Chaney and a three by Delancy. Delancy had back-to-back assists to Diallo and Chaney to make the score 84-79, and the Saints held on to win 85-81.
