Women’s Basketball Season Preview
The Women’s Basketball team has officially started their practices for the 2024-2025 season.
Gainesville, FL
Head Coach Russ Jackson enters his second season at the helm at Santa Fe College. Jackson led the Saints to a 13-16 season last year, losing in the FCSAA Quarterfinals to end the season. Jackson excited about the future of the Saints stated, "We are extremely excited about this upcoming season, the staff did an amazing job of identifying the needs of our program and addressing them in our recruitment. We have 11 new faces in the program (three transfers and eight freshman), so we'll be young and quite possibly have some growing pains early as I didn't do us any favors with our non-conference schedule. But we really like the mix of young people we have and am excited to see how we can fair this year within the Citrus Conference and Region 8."
The Saints will return just two players from the 2023-2024 season. Aissa Diallo and Ta'Niya Walker return for their sophomore season and their second season under Coach Jackson. In Diallo's freshman season she averaged 6.2 points a game and 2.1 rebounds a game. Walker averaging 2.6 points a contest and 2.7 rebounds per game.
With just two returners, Coach Jackson went to the transfer portal to pull in three transfers. Nakayla Green, Madyson Burney, and Taija Lloyd all enter their second season of college hoops, but just their first at SF. Green a transfer from State Fair College, a member of the NJCAA Region 16, played in 27 games. Green averaged 8.7 points per game and dished out just under two assists per contest. Burney is transferring in from Coppin State University. Burney appeared in 10 games, with a season high six points versus South Carolina State. Lloyd is coming to SF from Georgia Highlands College, where she averaged 10.8 points a game and 4.1 rebounds per contest.
The Saints added eight freshmen to the roster including high school teammates in Malanie Francis and Samantha Suarez. The Saints also add Micah Hannah, Riana Callihan, Aniyah Anderson, Taylor Hackett, Stella Chigha, and Yanija Lawson.
