Gainesville, FL
Santa Fe falls to 5-6 (1-1) after Saturday afternoon's loss to Miami Dade College (6-2, 2-0). Santa Fe fell behind 10-0 early, but a Russ Jackson timeout woke up the Saints offense to keep the game in reach after one quarter. In the second quarter Miami Dade turned on the pressure defensively forcing several SF turnovers. The Sharks took full advantage of the turnovers, turning it into a 41-24 lead at halftime. At the under five-minute media timeout the Saints cut the deficit to just eight points, and by the end of 30 minutes the Saints cut the lead to just one point. In the fourth quarter Santa Fe took the lead for the first time of the game 55-54. A high scoring fourth quarter favored Miami Dade as they ran away with it down the stretch.
Santa Fe had four players in double figures, led by Yanija Lawson with 17 points. Micah Hannah added 16, Aniyah Anderson added 12, and Aissa Diallo had 10. The Saints scored 77 points with just four three-point baskets on the afternoon. SF was improved at the charity stripe as they went 11/16 in the ball game.
Santa Fe is back in action Monday night as they travel to Daytona State College for a 5:00 PM tip.
