Volleyball Defeated by No. 13 Hillsborough in Four Sets
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 13 Hillsborough proved to be too much for Santa Fe College Volleyball to handle on Thursday afternoon, getting past the Saints by a 25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 25-17 score inside the SF Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tied 7-7 in Set 1, the Hawks went on a 6-1 run to go in front 13-8. A 3-0 run from SF drew the Saints closer, but that would be as close as they could come the rest of the way in the opener.
Set 2 was defined by an impressive run from the Saints. A kill from Keionna Mackey tied the score at 5-5, bringing Larissa Seger-Griebeler back to serve. Seger-Griebeler did damage from behind the line and helped SF to a 9-0 run, seizing a 14-5 lead. Seger-Griebeler had four service aces during the stretch of play.
HCC got as close as three points down the stretch of Set, but the Saints were able to close it out and tie the match at a set apiece, with Mackey's kill representing the final touch.
SF fell into a 9-2 deficit in both the third and fourth sets, and despite moments of high-level play, could never recover from the slow starts to the frames.
