Saints Knock Off Lake-Sumter in Three
Santa Fe hosted Lake-Sumter in a non-conference match on Monday night. The Saints took home a three-set win, before their conference match Wednesday against Miami Dade.

The Saints hosted the Lake-Sumter State College Lakehawks on Monday night. The Saints won in three sets 25-23, 25-9, 25-21.
Maria Contreras kicked off the match with a service ace, and this was followed by back-to-back kills by Mariana Haas and a block by Maria Freitas as the Saints jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set. The Lakehawks stormed back to take the lead 6-5, but Madison Villanueva tied the set 6-6 with a kill. The set went back-and-forth until the Lakehawks went on a run to take a 16-13 lead. The Lakehawks called a timeout when the Saints retied the set 18-18. Two kills by Mariana Haas gave the Saints a 23-21 lead, but the Lakehawks tied the set 23-23. The Saints won the first set 25-23 with a kill by Kailyn Howard.
Maria Freitas started the second set with a kill, and Madison Villanueva recorded a block as the Saints took another 4-0 lead. The Saints extended the lead to 12-3 with three aces by Maria Freitas and one by Madison Villanueva. The Lakehawks called a timeout after the Saints took a 15-5 lead. Aria Eisel added back-to-back aces followed by two Mariana Haas kills as the Saints extended the lead to 21-7. Mariana Haas ended the set 25-9 with a kill.
The Lakehawks took the first point of the third set, but the Saints took a 3-1 lead thanks to kills by Mariana Haas and Maria Freitas. The Lakehawks regained the lead 4-3 with an ace, and the Saints tied the set 9-9 with a kill by Linnea Preston. The Saints took the lead 12-11 with a kill by Kailyn Howard, and the Lakehawks took a timeout as the Saints extended the lead to 14-11. A block and kill by Linnea Preston extended the Saints' lead to 19-15. The Lakehawks took their second timeout after an error gave the Saints a 20-15 lead, and the Lakehawks responded with a 3-0 and cut the Saints' lead to 20-18. Maria Contreras gave the Saints match point at 24-19 with an ace, and Mariana Haas gave the Saints the 25-21 lead with a kill.
The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday, September 18th and will host Miami Dade College at 6:00 PM EDT.
