Baseball Splits Double Header with South Florida
Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe used a nine run inning in the first half of a double header against South Florida State College to power past the Panthers 14-3, but were slowed down by SFSC pitching in a game two 2-1 loss. The loss is the first of the season for SF, and put the Saints record at 6-1.

Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe used a nine run inning in the first half of a double header against South Florida State College to power past the Panthers 14-3, but were slowed down by SFSC pitching in a game two 2-1 loss. The loss is the first of the season for SF, and put the Saints record at 6-1.
Santa Fe trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, but poured it on, plating nine runs on four hits and five Panther errors. SFSC committed seven errors total.
The Saints would add four more insurance runs to close out the 11 run victory.
Robbie Hanlon was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and two runs scored, Hugo Valdes finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Brandon Hernandez was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Bailey Metcalf (1-0) earned the win in relief of David Lee.
Game two was a pitching duel as Kyle Morton held the Panthers scoreless for four inning, and SFSC pitching did the same. In the fifth Santa Fe finally got on the board via a two out RBI single by Dillon Reed.
South Florida quickly answered, tying the game in the sixth, and scored the go ahead run on a very close play in the seventh. SF went down in order in the seventh for the final result.
Dillion Reed was 1-for-2 with a RBI, and Robbie Hanlon and Hugo Valdez were each 1-for-2. Troy Bacon (0-1) took the loss for SF.
The Saints will be back in action at home on Monday, February 8 against Tallahassee CC at 3:00 PM.
