Gainesville, FL – A late rally by the FCSAA #3/Perfect Game #21 Santa Fe Saints (20-3, 2-0 MFC) proved to be the difference in a close game with the Central Florida Patriots on Friday afternoon on Ocala as SF scored two in the seventh and two in the ninth to help secure their twelfth win in a row.
Troy Bacon and the Saints bullpen was one of the keys for the Saints, tossing 5.2 combined innings, allowing just one run on two hits with eight strikeouts in relief of starter David Lee. Bacon threw the final three innings for his fifth save of the season. Call Graham (2-0) earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings. Anthony Auletta also tossed 1.1 scoreless innings.
With the game tied 3-3 heading into the seventh, Santa Fe took advantage of a wild pitch by David Lebron to break the deadlock, scoring Robbie Hanlon who started the inning with a double. Later in the inning, Matt Allen drove in a run with two outs for the 5-3 SF lead.
Still clinging to the two run advantage, Hugo Valdes gave the Saints some breathing room with a two out, two RBI single in the top of the ninth.
The Patriots scored one in the ninth on a solo homerun, but would get no closer.
Having already clinched the three game series, the Saints will look for a sweep when CF comes to Gainesville for a game on Saturday, March 5 scheduled for 1:00 PM. Fans can watch live on the Saints Sports Network.
