Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe sophomore pitcher Trent Johnson (6-1) tossed seven solid innings on Friday afternoon, allowing just three runs while striking out nine to earn the win over Florida State College-Jacksonville.
SF improves their record to 31-4 overall and 12-1 in the Mid-Florida Conference. They are currently riding a seven game winning streak and have won 23 of their last 24 games.
The Santa Fe offense was stagnant until Cole Parks unleashed a line drive homerun to left center to tie the score at 3-3 in the sixth inning.
Santa Fe took the lead for good in the seventh on an RBI double by Matt Allen, scoring Brandon Hernandez, who reached on a throwing error. Tyler Kinney hit his team leading fifth homerun in the eighth for an insurance run.
Call Graham pitched a scoreless eighth inning in relief, and Troy Bacon pitched the ninth for his 10th save, the second most in a season in school history. He is now just three behind Rene Guerra's all time Santa Fe mark of 13 set in 2007.
Santa Fe pounded out 10 hits on the day, with eight players recording at least one. Matt Allen and Cole Parks had two hits each.
The Saints and Blue Wave are schedule to finish their three game series in Jacksonville on Saturday, April 2 at 1:00 PM.
