Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (42-8) showed their resiliency today in Lakeland, fighting back from an early 4-0 hole to defeat Chipola College 6-4, winning the schools third FCSAA Championship (2009, 1985). Trent Johnson was masterful on the mound, retiring the last 14 batters he faced. Troy Bacon retired three straight in the ninth for his 15th save. The meeting was the third between the two teams at the tournament.

Troy Bacon took home the most hardware, winning MFC Pitcher of the Year and Fireman (closer) of the Year. Johnny Wiggs won his sixth MFC Coach of the Year award in 10 years, and seven others were honored on the first or second team.

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints moved closer to a Mid-Florida Conference title on Wednesday afternoon in Leesburg, defeating the Lake Sumter Lakehawks 12-6. Second place St. John’s River State College lost to the College of Central Florida in Ocala, making the Saints magic number one with four games to go. A win by Santa Fe (36-6, 17-3 MFC) in any of the next four games, or a loss by SJR (36-10, 14-6 MFC) would secure a Mid-Florida Conference title for the Saints.

Gainesville, FL – The College of Central Florida avoided a season sweep at the hands of Santa Fe College by defeating the Saints in Gainesville 10-1 on Monday afternoon. Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe’s Troy Bacon was clutch on the mound for the Saints (33-5, 14-2 MFC) on Wednesday afternoon in a win over Seminole State College, tossing the final three innings in relief. He fought out of a no out, two runners on jam in the seventh, retiring nine straight batters in all to secure his third win of the season. Bacon struck out four without allowing a baserunner. He has not surrendered a run (even inherited runners) since March 4, a streak of eight straight appearances.

Valdes hit two deep homeruns and finished with seven RBI. The win also gives 499 career collegiate coaching victories.
